It is worth a birding trip to the wetlands of northeastern Italy, through the regions around the cities of Comacchio and Venice, between Veneto and Emilia Romagna, where the Po River flows into the Adriatic Sea, a true paradise for birds-and perfect for birding. The incredible richness of birdlife in the “Po Delta Regional Park” is explained by the great ecological diversity, as the park includes vast agricultural areas, lowland forests, freshwater valleys, sandy coasts, ponds, salt marshes and brackish lagoons.
The Venice lagoon is enchanting in every season and is a true paradise for birdwatchers. From waders, to gulls, grebes, ducks, and flamingos, all around Venice, a city full of history and art, islands, and the monastery of San Francesco del Deserto.
We are in the Po Delta Regional Park, an area that stretches between land and water, rich in wetlands, lagoons, rivers, agricultural areas, and lowland forests. Flamingos number in the thousands all year round, and the checklist of species sighted during a day spent in the Valleys is amazing.
My passion fueled my curiosity and together with determination and respect for nature, I managed to become one of the first women to practice birdwatching professionally. I strongly believe in enhancing natural environments and I know how nature is everywhere around us, we just need to train our senses to be able to recognize it better. Would you like to go on a nature discovery trip with me?
Birdstories will be your safe space: diversity and inclusion are celebrated and no form of discrimination will ever be accepted or tolerated
Each itinerary can be customised to be accessible for everybody: this allows anyone to participate and enjoy the joy of a birding and a nature experience.
I personally know the itineraries, I propose and I create them to pass on all my love for the region, promoting places and people who care about the environment.
Birdwatchers who have already been with Birdstories to explore the area of the Po Delta and Venice Lagoon have appreciated the choice of observation sites, which a guide through experience discovers and knows. The local guide follows the best itineraries that, in an area as vast as the one between Venice and Comacchio, will allow us to spend perfect days birding and more. The history and art of these territories are immense, in between birding sessions we can also take a break, why not visit the Basilica of Sant'apollinare in Classe to admire its Byzantine mosaics, a Unesco heritage site, or go by ferry to Venice, or take a walk through the canals of Comacchio and have a nice coffee?
